Research at Veiga de Almeida University
Activity in the Research area belongs within the wider context of academic activity and enables the University to make its contribution, strengthening academic and scientific research, pursuing the discovery of new technologies and the development and enhancement of others.
Research is developed at UVA within its knowledge areas, seeking the applicability of its results. Scientific production is stimulated in the search for investigation and solutions within a spirit of contribution and transformation of products that represent innovation, competitiveness and new scientific knowledge for the benefit of society.
Scientific production is a way of encouraging potential academic and scientific careers, across all the Undergraduate programs. The Research Programs are focused on students and faculty in the Undergraduate programs and Graduate (Master's) Programs in all knowledge areas. They act as an incentive to their academic development, prioritizing active participation in projects under the guidance of University teachers. Its paramount goals are:
• Contributing to the systematization and broadening of research at UVA;
• Collaborating in strengthening the areas and groups of research;
• Stimulating teachers to engage students in research activity, promoting an increase of both teaching and learning production at the University;
• Affording institutional visibility to what is produced scientifically, at the technical standards accepted by the Brazilian and international community, by means of publications, presentations and participation in scientific-technological events, locally and abroad.
Scientific initiation is a way of encouraging, in all the Undergraduate programs, the potential academic and scientific careers of their students.
The UVA Scientific Initiation Program is focused on graduation students from all knowledge areas, and acts as an incentive to their academic development, prioritizing their active participation in projects under the guidance of teachers from the University.
Research and quality of teaching
The major challenge for teaching institutions can be summarized as the ongoing search for development and quality in teaching. Firstly, because teaching entails a whole series of competencies. One of these is the competency to establish interaction with the object of teaching, the existing accumulated and systematized knowledge, which calls for mastery of various contents to be taught. This is a goal that increases with the accelerated advance of the sciences and the changes taking place in today's world. To overcome this challenge, teaching institutions must find ways to develop research and extension, enabling them to add quality to their Undergraduate programs and Graduate teaching. This entails the availability of teachers/researchers with the qualification and dedication required for intellectual and scientific production.
Facing this challenge, UVA has been implementing Research Scholarship Programs, through a cooperative effort involving teaching institutions and the mobilization of resources from the Research Promotion Fund, provided by Research Support Foundations.
